Inaugural Issue of Keeping it Green Out Now

The AGCSA has this week distributed the first edition of Keeping it Green, the Australian Golf Environmental Initiative’s new monthly newsletter. In 2005 the AGCSA, in conjunction with Golf Australia, launched the Australian Golf Environmental Initiative to help increase the environmental profile of Australian golf courses. A key part of the initiative is to maintain regular communication with those involved in golf and the wider community.

EBS Joins Forces with Audubon

Australian company Environmental Business Solutions (EBS) and Audubon International have announced a partnership designed to further promote adoption of environmental management systems and environmental stewardship in golf. 

Toro Signs on as Environment Foundation Principal Partner

Toro Australia has provided further impetus for the recently formed Australian Golf Environment Foundation (AGEF) after announcing this week it has signed on as a principal partner. One of the turf industry’s most innovative and progressive companies, Toro has committed a substantial five-figure sum to the foundation and becomes the second principal partner to back the AGCSA-driven initiative.

Bayer Backs Australian Golf Environment Foundation

The Australian Golf Environment Foundation (AGEF) has received a major boost this week with the announcement that Bayer Environmental Science (BES) has confirmed as inaugural principal partner. Demonstrating its ongoing commitment to improving industry environmental management practices around the globe, BES has made a significant contribution to the foundation which aims to use science and education to benefit golf in the area of environmental management, protection, and enhancement.

Dome Flicks Switch on Carbon Emissions

Melbourne’s Telstra Dome has become one of the first sporting arenas in the world to offset its carbon emissions after entering into an arrangement with Australian climate change company Carbon Planet. The announcement came as the Dome unveiled its new artificial lighting rigs which have been purchased from Dutch company Stadium Grow Light Concept (SGL) to aid surface wear and recovery.

Carbon Initiative has Troon Courses Going Green

Troon Golf Australia has signed an agreement with Environmental Business Solutions to use its e-par environmental management software to minimise the impacts the company’s golf courses have on the environment. Troon will be the first in the world to undertake a comprehensive study on the level of carbon emitted by golf courses, which it hopes will be used as an environmental benchmark on a global level.

Kooindah Waters Laps Up Environmental Award Accolades

Kooindah Waters Golf Club on the NSW Central Coast has been awarded the Wyong-Tuggerah Chamber of Commerce Environment Award for 2006. The award is presented every year to the business that performs above compliance and can show environmental sustainability within the local Wyong-Tuggerah business community.

Superintendents Embrace AGCSA Environmental Initiative

Representatives from over 100 golf clubs across the country turned out for the first series of workshops as part of the Australian Golf Course Superintendents’ Association’s world-leading Environmental Management Initiative. The interactive workshops, conducted by Terry Muir whose e-par environmental management system (EMS) forms the basis of the initiative, were held in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney and attracted 105 golf clubs and their respective course superintendents and, in some cases, club managers.
